Vern Boer was born and raised in Rock Valley, Iowa. He attended Emmetsburg Community College where he majored in Political Science. Vern has volunteered with coaching youth sports and protecting his neighborhood by being a volunteer Firefighter/ EMT. Vern has many years of experience in sales and distribution, working with everything from selling vehicles to outdoor advertising. In 1984 Vern became a professional Firefighter /EMT for the city of Sioux Falls, South Dakota retiring in January of 2006 with 22 years of service.
In 1989 he started Vern’s Video and filmed a variety of events for professional, promotional and family requests. Vern has been an avid outdoorsman, hunting and fishing since he could catch his own nitecrawlers or shoot a BB gun. Because of this love for the outdoors, he would film family and friends while hunting and fishing. It became apparent that he and his son Jeff wanted to further pursue this avenue, and in 2003 partnered to film and produce Wild Dakota.
Vern and his wife Ann have been married for 36 years. They have lived in South Dakota the entire time. They have two grown children, a daughter Wendy (a Special Education Teacher) and son Jeff (partner Wild Dakota). They also have three grandsons – David 12, Kaiden 2 and Dylan 6 mo’s. Vern enjoys sharing the outdoors with family and friends and in turn sharing it with the many viewers of Wild Dakota.
The success of the show is due in part to showing the experiences of the average hunter and fishermen enjoying the outdoors in our Wild Dakota.
